Crowns are similar to fillings. And when I say similar, when you need a filling, we have to create a hole in your tooth, and then we fill it, simple. But sometimes we need something that’s a little bit more. And that’s what a crown does, it protects our tooth. It protects our tooth from all of the forces that we put on it, from chewing nuts, from chewing, God forbid I say this, ice. But it protects the tooth by allowing for forces to be directed down the long axis of the tooth versus through the center of the tooth. And so crowns are the perfect way to protect them.
At 19th Street Dental, we use a system called the CEREC, which allows us to mill our crowns the same day. So you would leave the same day with your crown. We’ve milled it, we’ve matched the color, placed it in, we’ve checked everything. You never have to use a temporary, which will give you sensitivity and it may pop off, we don’t have to do that. We will create the crown the same day and put it in there.
